Every new Product Circle member is introduced to the circle with a one-line tagline, so other members know who you are and who to talk to. A good tagline says what you do in a way that makes someone want to start a conversation. This page explains how intros work and how to write a tagline that does its job.

## What are Product Circle member intros?

When you're selected, you're added to the member group and introduced with your one-line tagline. It's the first thing people learn about you, and it's how members find each other later: the PM who has shipped a checkout redesign, the founder hiring a first PM, the person who knows B2B pricing in India.

Here's the illustrative example we use on our site:

> "I make checkout boring, on purpose." — PM, Payments, Bengaluru

In seven words you know their domain, their philosophy and what to ask them about. That's the standard.

## Why a one-line tagline works better than a bio

A bio lists things. A tagline gives people a reason to talk to you.

- **It's memorable.** Nobody remembers "Senior Product Manager with 6+ years of experience across B2C and B2B". People remember "I make checkout boring, on purpose."
- **It's a conversation starter.** A good tagline invites the obvious follow-up: "Why boring?"
- **It's searchable in people's heads.** When someone in the circle needs a payments person, they think of you.

This is the same principle behind good networking in general. There's more on that in our guide to [networking for product managers](https://productcircle.club/blog/networking-for-product-managers).

## How member intros work

What we can say publicly:

1. You apply, and every application is read personally by the team.
2. If you're selected, the WhatsApp number on your application is added to the member group.
3. You're introduced with an intro and your one-line tagline.

How intros are posted is shared with members. The full joining process is on the [how to join page](https://productcircle.club/how-to-join).

## How to write a great one-line tagline

### Lead with what you do, not your title

Your title is on LinkedIn. Your tagline should say what you actually do all day, in plain words. "I help small sellers get their first 100 orders" says more than "Growth PM".

### Pick one thing

You've done lots of things. Choose the one you most want people to come to you about. A tagline that tries to cover your whole career ends up saying nothing.

### Show a point of view

"I make checkout boring, on purpose" works because "on purpose" tells you how they think. A small opinion makes you memorable and gives people something to ask about.

### Keep it under about ten words

If it needs a comma and a semicolon, it's two taglines. Cut until it reads in one breath.

### Make it easy to reply to

Read it back and ask: what would someone say in response? If the answer is "nice", rewrite it. If the answer is a question, you've got it.

### Avoid jargon and buzzwords

"Driving synergies across the product value chain" tells nobody anything. Use the words you'd use with a friend over chai.

### Say what you're looking for, if it matters

If you're hiring, raising or looking for a co-founder, a tagline can say so. "Pre-seed, climate, looking for a technical co-founder" is direct and useful, and it pairs well with a post on the [jobs and opportunities board](https://productcircle.club/membership/jobs-board).

## Example taglines

These are illustrative examples written for this page. They are not real members.

1. "I turn support tickets into roadmaps." — PM, B2B SaaS
2. "I delete features for a living." — PM, Consumer apps
3. "I help kirana stores take orders online." — Founder, Retail tech
4. "I make loan approvals take minutes, not days." — PM, Lending
5. "Ex-founder, now PM. I still ask 'why now?' a lot." — PM, Marketplaces
6. "I build tools for teachers who hate tools." — Founder, Edtech
7. "I've priced the same product three times. Ask me why." — PM, SaaS
8. "Pre-seed, climate, looking for a technical co-founder." — Founder, Climate

Notice what they share: each names a specific domain or job, most carry a small opinion or a hook, and every one gives you an obvious first question.

## Before and after

A few illustrative rewrites:

| Before | After |
| --------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------- |
| Product leader passionate about user-centric design | I make onboarding so short people don't notice it |
| Founder and CEO at an early-stage startup | I'm building payroll for 10-person companies |
| PM with experience in fintech, e-commerce and SaaS | I make checkout boring, on purpose |

The "before" column is accurate and forgettable. The "after" column is specific enough to start a conversation.

## How to get the most from your intro

- **Reply to other intros.** When someone's tagline overlaps with your work, say hello. It's the simplest way to make your first connection.
- **Follow up at the next meetup.** The [monthly chai meetup](https://productcircle.club/membership/chai-meetups) is where intros turn into conversations in person.
- **Update your tagline when your work changes.** If you've moved from payments to lending, people should know who to come to.
- **Use it in the AMA.** Your tagline doubles as your one line of context when you ask a question in the [weekly AMA](https://productcircle.club/membership/weekly-ama).

## Start with your tagline

If you've already drafted your one line while reading this, keep it for your intro. The application itself asks for your role, one product decision you're proud of and what you want from the community; the [how to join page](https://productcircle.club/how-to-join) lists every question.
